Piet Paris: The New Male Silhouette

E.P. Cutler has just published an insightful interview with the influential fashion illustrator Piet Paris.
Certainly inspired by the Dutch artist's well-known female silhouettes (above) and "abstract fashion statements" which have embellished major publications such as Vogue Nippon, W Korea, and Elle, photographer Vandenbrink and stylist Groo decided to present their guest himself as a silhouette,... almost an abstract statement!
The results are breathtaking, as you may see here.

Out in the Streets

Street fashion blogs show us that, without any doubt or question, the male figure is continually evolving (and not only fashion-wise). It's steadily advancing, emancipating itself, moving away from the conventional, boring, gray archetypes that our grandparents would acknowledge as "menswear".
Could a man have been be caught, outdoors, during the day, in plain sight, in any of these outfits some 20 years ago without causing a turmoil?
Take for instance the sleeve-less tux jacket, the leggings and the high heel boots worn by the gentleman above. Or look at the stylist Sonny Groo (below), who was photographed while calmly traversing the sidewalk in his spike shoes.

And what do we make of Trevor, the young man shown below?
Is he cross-dressing? Is he trying lo look like a girl?
Or is he just questioning the old, trite, archetypes with an even bolder push of the envelope?
I don't have the answer for that question. Nor do I think it's that important.
I can only state that Trevor's a very brave young man, and that he looks absolutely stunning.

In Print
I can still remember the days when "magazines" were all "printed" stuff, and you had to eagerly wait for the new number to be issued or your subscription to arrive. The Internet has changed all that. Now you can get updates of your favorite "e-zines" almost every day!
But even in these days of virtual reality and instant gratification, there's nothing comparable to browsing through the latest number of, say, Vogue in it's printed edition, impeccably published in bright paper and gorgeous pictures.
That's why the top magazines are still published in the "old fashioned" way, even if they can also be accessed on-line through their websites or blogs.
And it it classy and chic for a major fashion blog or site to appear in a full fledged printed format, such as the one recently launched by one of my very favorite sites, Mykromag.
It can be ordered at their on-line store.
The debut edition features editorials by Jason Kim, Petrovsky and Ramone, and other artists. Among the stylists we see, of course, the Mykromag team, Sonny Groo and Jean-Paul Paula.

Petit Prince's World
Charles Guislain
French child prodigy Charles Guislain, a full scale celebrity model before he was 16, stunned the fashion world not only for his disarming blond cuteness, but also, and especially, for his androgyny, his natural ability to move around in heels and, most of all, his extreme (almost worrying) thinness.
I just stumbled upon this nice selection at this interesting Flickr photo stream.
Guislain, a multi-talented teenager, has already started a career as a fashion photographer and stylist, and he's planning to become a designer himself.
Is he setting an example to the younger generation?
I certainly hope so: one of open-mindedness and respect for our differences, whatever they happen to be.
A bad example? Quite the contrary, I believe.
I am a bit concerned about his scrawniness, though, I should admit...

Street Fashion à Paree: Oh-la-là !
Among the many stylish and venturesome fashionistas featured in it, both ladies and gentlemen, you'll come across numerous pics of New Males.
In it's Paris chapter, blogger and stylist Sonny Groo poses in furs and Rad Hourani high heels, very young model Charles Guislain shows off his slender figure (actually I'm a bit troubled by his anorexic scrawniness) , celebrity blogger Bryanboy, and many other gentlemen openly display their creativity by wearing kimonos, leggings, high-heels, what-have-you!

Dressing the part
I'll be referring today to some of my favorite "fashion-bloggers", the ones who write about fashion and style. Often, just as I do in this blog, they promote "male fashion freedom", that is, the liberty for us men to wear items traditionally considered "too feminine" or otherwise "inappropiate" for the gentlemen.
One might wonder, do they actually do as they preach? Do they really go out in high-heels and skirts? What are they wearing as they blog?
These are just a few authors of the many blogs I enjoy:

And well, at this point I guess I't only fair to include a pic of my own style, isn't it?
I'm no model, and the shot is anything but professional, but I think it's not that bad.
I know I'm leaving a lot of people out.
There are many wonderful blogs out there whose authors are also "free-dressers", but not all of them publish their pics or haven't done so recently.
Is there anybody in particular you'd like me to include? I'm sure there are some good blogs I'm even unaware of! Tell me about them!
